The iconic Blue Turf on Lyle Smith Field at Albertsons Stadium is turning 40 in 2026 - and Boise State will celebrating the anniversary all season long!
To kick off the 40th Anniversary of The Blue campaign, Boise State released its special logo to celebrate The Blue on April 8.

Designed by Boise State Athletics' in-house graphic design team of Cal Comstock ('26), Alex Powell and Katie Macare ('23), the logo tells the story of not only The Blue, but its place in the Boise community and the state of Idaho.
From the Boise foothills, to the state of Idaho flag, to the number of “blue turfs” that have been installed at Albertsons Stadium, the logo showcases a few of the things that make the innovative turf color so memorable.

The blue turf was installed at Boise State in 1986, and it was the brainchild of then-athletic director Gene Bleymaier. Despite the early naysayers, it has stood the test of time and become one of the most iconic things to represent the state of Idaho. The forward-thinking, innovative blue leap of faith by Bleymaier has now become synonymous with Boise.
Stay tuned throughout the spring and summer for more information on the 40th Anniversary of The Blue celebration.
