BOISE, Idaho — Boise State junior Trevor Garus is set to compete in the 2026 U.S. Amateur Championship, taking place at historic Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pa. from Aug. 10-16.

Widely recognized as the most prestigious amateur golf event in the world, this year's U.S. Amateur Championship features a field of 312 golfers. Garus, who is among 172 exempt players, qualified for the tournament after claiming first place in the 2026 Wyoming Amateur in June.

Firing a 71-66-67 across the three rounds, Garus carded a 204 and ended the competition 12-under. He finished three strokes ahead of Ash Edwards (-9), who was the runner-up.

Beginning Monday, Aug. 10, the championship opens with 36 holes of stroke play across two days. From there, the top 64 competitors will qualify for five days of match play from Aug. 12-16 to determine the champion.

The winner of the 2026 U.S. Amateur Championship will receive a gold medal and the Havemeyer Trophy. Additionally, the champion will receive an exemption to the following:
  • U.S. Amateur for the next 10 years
  • Likely invitation into the 2027 Masters Tournament (Augusta National, April 5-11)
  • 2027 U.S. Open (Pebble Beach, June 17-20)
  • 2027 Open Championship (Old Course at St. Andrews, July 11-18)
The five days of match play will be aired live, and fans can watch the competition on Peacock and NBC Sports Network.

Garus, a Boise native, signed with the Broncos in June and enters his first season at Boise State in 2026-27. He transferred from UCLA, where he competed in 11 tournaments during his first two collegiate seasons.
