Derrick McMahen
Derrick McMahen joined Boise State as a special teams quality control staff member in 2023 and moved to assistant special teams and secondary coach starting with the 2024 season.

Coming to the Treasure Valley following a short stint at Buffalo as an analyst and quality control staff member, He previously spent the 2022 season as the STUDs and nickels coach at Southern Illinois. McMahen worked with current Boise State cornerbacks coach Demario Warren from 2020-21 at Southern Utah as the safeties coach. Before his time in the FCS ranks, McMahen was a coach at Palomar Community College.

Bringing a defensive-minded background to the coaching ranks, McMahen played safety at Wyoming from 2007-08 following a two-year stint at Palomar Community College in 2005-06.
McMahen is a 2010 graduate of the University of Wyoming with a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology and Health. He also received his Master of Science degree in Kinesiology & Health from Wyoming in 2012.

He was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps in 2013, serving until Fall 2017 in the 4th Tank Battalion of the 4th Marine Division.
