Terrence Brown
Terrence Brown
Terrence Brown joined Boise State as the co-defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach in January 2026.

Brown joins the Bronco staff after working the past four years at Cal. He was promoted to co-defensive coordinator prior to the 2025 campaign after serving as the defensive backs coach and passing game coordinator for three seasons.

Brown brings more than a decade of coaching experience, having spent time at Cal, Vanderbilt and Washington (twice) following his playing career at Stanford. He was named to the 247 Sports 30Under30 coaches list in both 2019 and 2020.

Brown made an immediate impact on Cal's defensive unit. In his first year co-leading the defense, Cal finished fourth in the ACC in passing yards allowed with 205.2 yards per game. In 2024, the Golden Bears led the ACC with only 290 points allowed. Cal also ranked third in the league in yards per game (337.5) and was one of two teams to allow less than five yards per play over the year.

In 2023, the Bears led the nation with 16 fumbles recovered and tied for the national lead with a +28 turnover margin. Cal scored three defensive touchdowns on the season, the second-most in the Pac-12 and 15th nationally, and its 12 interceptions tied for third in the conference and 36th nationally.

During his tenure with the Golden Bears, Brown coached All-Americans in defensive backs Hezekiah Masses and Nohl Williams. Multiple players also received all-conference recognition under his guidance, including Brent Austin, Masses, Daniel Scott, Craig Woodson (twice) and Williams. Former Bronco Jeremiah Earby earned an honorable mention nod under Brown.

Prior to joining the staff at Cal, Brown spent two seasons as the assistant defensive backs coach at Washington (2020-21). In his two seasons with the Huskies, he coached four players who were later drafted in the NFL in Kyler Gordon (Chicago), Trent McDuffie (Kansas City), Elijah Molden (Tennessee) and Keith Taylor Jr. (Kansas City).

Brown spent two seasons as the cornerbacks coach at Vanderbilt (2018-19). In his first season, the Commodores reached the Texas Bowl and equaled their best record in eight seasons. He coached Joejuan Williams, a second round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, during his time in Nashville.

Brown began his career in the FBS ranks as a graduate assistant at Washington from 2015-17. During his first stint with the Huskies, he coached All-Americans Budda Baker and Sidney Jones. Baker and Jones were later drafted to the NFL, in addition to Kevin King, Jordan Miller, Byron Murphy, Taylor Rapp, Keith Taylor Jr. and Zeke Turner.

As a player, Brown played four seasons at Stanford from 2009-12. He started all 23 of his collegiate games during the final two seasons of his four-year career and compiled 65 tackles as a senior. He totaled 113 tackles, 4.0 tackles for loss, two interceptions and a forced fumble over his four-year career.
