Clare O’Brien joined the Boise State cross country and track and field programs as a volunteer assistant coach in fall 2021, after spending the previous five years as a standout student-athlete for both teams (2016-2021).

O’Brien is a five-time All-American, garnering first-team honors twice in her final outdoor track and field season with the Broncos (5,000m and 10,000m). She was named Boise State’s 2020-2021 Female Athlete of the Year and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

She claimed two Mountain West titles in her career, winning the 3,000m run at the 2017 indoor championships and contributing to the winning distance medley team at the same meet, and was a six-time all-conference performer. She is an eight-time
Academic All-MW honoree and a four-time MW Scholar-Athlete.

The Queensland, Australia native was selected as a nominee for the 2021 NCAA Woman of the Year Award, which honors academic achievement, athletic excellence, community service and leadership of outstanding female student-athletes. She was also selected by the MW as a 2021 NCAA Woman of the Year conference honor.

O’Brien is currently working toward her master’s degree in business administration at Boise State.
