Ivan Alexov joined the Boise State gymnastics team as an assistant coach for the 2020 season and was promoted to associate head coach for the 2024 season. He primarily coaches vault and bars.

Alexov has coached three individual conference champions, including two-time Courtney Blackson (2021 and 2023, MRGC), two-time Emily Mulenhaupt (2021 and 2022, MRGC) and Emily Lopez (2024, MW). He also helped lead the Broncos to earning the inaugural Mountain West Championship title in 2024.

Alexov and Blackson have been an unstoppable force at NCAA Regionals with Blackson being named the vault and bars champion in 2023 and 2024, respectively. In fact, Blackson scored the first 10.000 on vault at regionals in program history and the fourth all-time. She finished her career as a two-time All-American, earning the distinction on vault and bars.

Lopez was also coached by Alexov when she scored the first 10.000 in Boise State history while facing BYU in 2023. Â

In addition, he has coached five first-team All-American honorees and two second-team honorees. Muhlenhaupt earned the first-team distinction three times on bars (2021, 2022 and 2023), while Blackson earned first-team honors on vault and bars (2023 and 2024, respectively). Lopez earned second-team honors on bars for the regular season, as well as at the national championships (2023).

Prior to joining the Boise State staff, Alexov, who has more than 25 years of coaching experience across all levels of gymnastics, spent the previous five years as a member of the USA Gymnastics National Team staff, and co-owner of Omega Gymnastics in Beaverton, Ore.

Throughout his coaching career Alexov has achieved numerous accolades, including being named Region II Junior Olympics Coach of the Year three times. Showcasing his versatility across all levels, Alexov has coached Level 9 and 10 gymnasts to national titles, trained athletes that went on to earn college scholarships and coached athletes at international competitions.

He also served as the Region II Junior Olympics Committee Chairman for two years.

Alexov was a member of the Bulgarian National Team for eight years, and is a three-time Bulgarian National Champion. He was also a member of the European and World Championship Teams in 1991 and 1994.

Alexov earned both a bachelor's in physical education and a master's in sports science at the Republic of Bulgaria's National Sports Academy.
