Bob Carney has served as the department's Senior Associate Athletic Director for Strategic Planning and Capital Projects since July 2018. Carney serves on the leadership and senior staff teams, and as the primary sport administrator for football.
Since joining Boise State in 2005, Carney has also served as Interim Director of Athletics (fall 2020), Assistant Athletic Director for Operations, Athletic Department Facilities/Operations Manager, Stueckle Sky Center Director of Operations, Financial Technician for the Athletics Business Office, Financial Technician for Event Management and, in his first role, Landscape Technician with Operations and Maintenance.
Carney has helped Boise State develop and implement its strategic plan, and worked diligently to foster relationships with donors, raising funds for capital projects and facility improvements. He also assisted with the overall management of the athletic department, and oversaw all aspects of championship travel for football, including the 2014 VIZIO Fiesta Bowl, and for men's and women's basketball, which each competed in the NCAA Tournament in 2015.
Carney develops bids for hosting postseason competition, ultimately helping to secure the 2018 NCAA Tournament First and Second Rounds at Taco Bell Arena in Boise and then serving as tournament coordinator for the event.Â
During his time as Associate Athletic Director, Carney developed and implemented improvements to the safety and security program at Albertsons Stadium, which resulted in a Facility of Merit Award from the National Center for Spectator Sport Safety and Security.
He also serves as the project manager for all capital projects and facility renovations, including the construction of the Bleymaier Football Center, DeChevrieux Field, Boise State football's grass practice facility, and Dona Larsen Park, a multi-purpose facility that plays host to the Broncos' softball and track and field programs, in addition to high school football games.
Additionally, Carney oversees the departments financial operations; develops and manages all memorandums of understandings, requests for proposals and service contracts for the operations department; oversees the athletic department's portion of Boise State's food services contract, including suite catering, alcohol service and concessions; and also previously served as the department's sport administrator for its track and field, cross country and baseball programs.
Carney also managed and coordinated facility set-up and event operations for a speech by President Barack Obama in Boise State's Caven-Williams Indoor Sports Complex.
Prior to joining Boise State, Carney served as the Director of Operations for Desert Haven Enterprises in Lancaster, Calif., for nearly four years (2001-05), and was a branch and regional manager for Pestmaster Services (1996-2001), also in Lancaster.
Originally from Palmdale CA, Carney served as an Avionics Electronic Technician and Shift Leader for the United States Air Force from 1992-96 at Dyess Air Force Base in Texas. Carney earned his bachelor's degree in business administration from Boise State in August 2008, and his master's in athletic leadership, also from Boise State, in 2018.
Carney and his wife, Jami, have two daughters - Taylor and Faith.
