David Moats enters his ninth season on the Boise State men's basketball staff and his third as an assistant coach in 2025-26.

Beginning his tenure with the Broncos on June 5, 2017, Moats was the program's director of operations for his first five seasons. In July 2022, Moats was promoted to assistant coach and was tabbed as the director of recruiting.

In his current role, Moats is tasked with responsibilities in recruiting, player development, rebounding and game scouting. As director of operations, Moats oversaw the basketball office, travel and equipment arrangements, as well as serving as the director for all Boise State men’s basketball institutional camps and clinics.

Across his eight seasons with the Broncos, Moats has helped the program post six 20-win seasons while reaching the NCAA Tournament three times. Boise State has amassed a 174-90 (65.9%) record in his tenure.

Prior to Boise State, Moats spent three seasons with Weber State, where he helped the Wildcats advanced to the postseason twice, including the 2016 NCAA Tournament. At Weber State, he assisted with all areas of the program, including travel and scheduling.

Preceding his time with the Wildcats, Moats was a graduate assistant coach at Florida. He worked with the Gators during the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons, and was a contributing member to a Final Four run in his final season. While there, Moats earned his master’s degree in sports management.

A native of Guernsey, Wyo., Moats played basketball for two seasons at Northwest Junior College in Powell, Wyo. His coaching career began immediately after his playing days, serving as a student assistant coach at Wyoming while finishing his undergraduate studies.

Moats graduated from Wyoming in 2012 with a degree in kinesiology.
