Kevin Wood was a two-time Idaho state high school champion. A four-year letterman for the Bronco wrestling team, Wood helped Boise State to Big Sky Conference championships in 1979, 1980, and 1982. The 1981 team finished as runner-up. Wood won individual Big Sky Conference championships in 1979 and 1980 in the 167-pound division. In 1982 he captured his third league crown in the 177-pound division. Following each individual conference championships, Wood advanced to the NCAA Division I national tournament. In his senior year, he missed playing in the NCAA tournament by one point.
