IAN JOHNSON NAMED WAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

            BOISE, Idaho For the second time in three weeks, Boise State University running back Ian Johnson has been named the WAC’s Offensive Player of the Week.

            A sophomore from San Dimas, Calif., (Damien HS), Johnson rushed for 178 yards and two touchdowns on 29 carries in Boise State’s 41-34 win over the University of Hawai’i last Saturday (Jan. 23).  Johnson had touchdown runs of three and eight yards in the game and averaged 6.1yards per carry.  His 178 yards marked the third straight game he has been over the 100-yard mark in rushing.

He also had one pass reception for 10 yards to bring his all-purpose yardage total for the game to 188.

            Johnson also won the league’s weekly award following Boise State’s 42-14 win over Oregon State University on Sept. 7. 

            Johnson is ranked third nationally in three different statistical categories following the fourth week of the season.  He is third in rushing averaging 156.5 yards per game, third in scoring with a 13.5 points-per-game average and third in all-purpose yards with a per-game average of 164.25.

            The conference award also marks the fourth straight week a Bronco player has earned the honor.

            Linebacker Colt Brooks (defense) and punter Kyle Stringer (special teams) won the award following Boise State’s 45-0 win over Sacramento State on August 31, Johnson (offense) and returner Quinton Jones (special teams) earned the honor following the Oregon State game and Jones (defense) and Stringer (special teams) after the Broncos’ 17-10 win at the University of Wyoming.
