BRONCOS SET SEVERAL RECORDS IN THE CLASSROOM

            BOISE, Idaho While Bronco student-athletes have been setting team and individual records competing for Boise State University, the same can be said in the classroom as several academic records were also established following the fall 2006 semester.

            The grade-point-average for all Boise State student-athletes this past fall semester was 2.81, the highest fall semester GPA in school history.  The best single semester GPA was 2.86 in the spring of 2006.  The 2.81 fall semester GPA also increased Boise State’s cumulative athletic department GPA to a record 2.94.  The previous record for the cumulative GPA was 2.90 following the spring 2005 semester.

            In accumulating the department’s current GPA records, 169 Bronco student-athletes earned a 3.00 or higher GPA for the fall 2006 semester 52 percent of all student-athletes.

            Teams setting single semester records were women’s tennis with a 3.31 GPA, and wrestling with a 2.74 GPA.

            Four teams increased their cumulative GPA to all-time highs this past semester.  Women’s tennis improved its GPA to 3.21, women’s track to 3.18, men’s basketball to 2.93 and football, which posted an undefeated season of 13-0 and won the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl over the University of Oklahoma, to 2.78.

            Seven student-athletes record perfect 4.00 GPAs in the classroom this past semester with Coby Karl (men’s basketball), Kate Keller (soccer), Brennan Lau (soccer), David Lowery (football), Megan Olivetti (women’s track), Robbie Richards (men’s golf) and Katie Street (women’s golf).  Through seven semesters at Boise State, Street has a perfect cumulative GPA of 4.00.
