Boise State’s Troy Merritt has been named the Western Athletic Conference Golfer of the Month for September.

Merritt, a senior from Fridley, Minn. (Winona State), won two individual titles and tied for third in another tournament last month for the Broncos.  He won the Giustina Memorial Classic in Corvallis, Ore., with a 12-under 204 and then set a school record for a two-round score with a 10-under 134 in winning the Purple and Red Invitational in Ogden, Utah.  His performance in the latter event helped the Broncos win their first team title in two seasons.  Last week, he shot a 2-under 211 at the Shootout at Angel Park in Las Vegas.  Merritt birdied six of the final seven holes to finish in a tie for third place at the event.
