Broncos Go 28-4 in Jack Taylor Classic

BOISE, Idaho The Boise State University women’s tennis team went 20-3 in singles and 8-1 in doubles during the three-day Jack Taylor Classic held Oct. 5-7, at the Appleton Tennis Center in Boise, Idaho.

Stacey Housley led the way for the Broncos in singles as she collected five victories over the weekend. Sunday she ousted New Mexico’s Victoria Tessmar in straight sets 6-1 and 6-3.

Jana Mackova posted a perfect 3-0 mark at the tournament in singles and a 2-1 record in doubles with partner Laura Baum. Mackova capped off the Jack Taylor Classic with a three set singles victory over Montana State’s Laura Villegas 2-6, 6-1 and 6-2.

Baum was also flawless in singles play for the tournament as she registered a 4-0 record. Baum collected one victory Friday, two Saturday and one Sunday to finish second to Housley in individual victories at the Jack Taylor Classic. Sunday her win came in straight sets over Utah’s Andrea Maughan 7-5 and 6-4.

Newcomer Pichittra Thongdack recorded three victories in her first home meet with the Broncos. She picked up a singles victory each day including a 6-1 and 6-1 win over Sandra Zmak of New Mexico, Sunday.

Thongdack also paired with Polina Kokulina to go 3-0 in doubles play over the weekend. The duo’s last victory came over Oregon’s Anna Powaska and Celine Rolly, 9-7.

Kokoulina was 2-1 in tournament with her only loss coming Sunday against Oregon’s Rolly, 2-6, 6-3 and 7-5. Friday she recorded a straight set victory over Leigh Walsh of Utah 6-0 and 6-4.

Bianca Jochimsen was 2-0 in the tournament with straight set wins against Montana State’s Laura Villegas (7-5 and 7-6) and Nuria Hernandez (6-1 and 6-2). Jochimsen also was 2-0 with doubles partner Klaudia Wlodarczyk.

In singles, Wlodarczyk was 1-2 with her victory coming Friday against Erin Monson of Utah 6-1 and 6-2.

The Boise State women’s tennis team will continue its season Oct 12-14 at the Midland Invitational in Midland, Texas.
