Boise Defeats Second Straight Ranked Opponent

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. The No. 67 Boise State University women’s tennis knocked its second ranked opponent in as many days, as Coach Tichenor’s squad defeated No. 65 Kansas State, 5-2, at the Lobo Tennis Center at Albuquerque, N.M., Sunday.

The Broncos swept the doubles matches and earned victories in the third through sixth positions of singles to capture their third win against a ranked opponent this season.

Klaudia Wlodarcyzk remained flawless as a Bronco (7-0) when she defeated Tereza Prochazkova, 3-6, 6-3 and 6-2 in the No. 6 position.  

Junior Stacey Housley continues to be a force in the middle of the Boise State lineup. She has won 17 of her last 18 matches including a 6-0 and 6-1 against victory over Olga Klimova, Saturday.

Tiffany Coll moved up from the No. 6 position to No. 5 but was unfazed by the advancement, as she handled Natasha Vieria in straight sets 6-3 and 6-1.

Playing in the third position, Jana Mackova earned the win over Katerina Kudlackova, 6-4 and 6-4, to earn the final match point for Boise State.

At No. 1 doubles, Laura Baum teamed with Mackova to win, 8-3, over Viviana Yrureta and Fernanda Da Valla.

Polina Kokoulina and Wlodarcyzk followed with an 8-2 victory over Kudlackova and Klimova.

Bianca Jochimsen and Coll then closed out the doubles matches with an 8-1 win over Vieira and Prochazkova.

The Boise State No.1 and No. 2 singles fell for the second consecutive match. Jochimsen fell to Da Valle 6-3 and 6-3 while Kokoulina was defeated by Yrureta 7-5 and 7-6.

Boise State will return home Mar. 3 to host the BYU Cougars in a dual match.
