Broncos Close Out Fresno State Lexus Classic

FRESNO, Calif. The Boise State University men’s golf team finished in 14th place at the Fresno State Lexus Classic at the Sunnyside Golf Course, Wednesday.

The Broncos played well in the first and third rounds, shooting a respectable 298 (+10) in each round but the second round was their undoing. The 321 (+33) recorded in the second round of the tournament dropped Boise State to 14th place, from which it never recovered.

Troy Merritt led Boise State with a 7-over par, 223, to finish tied for 35th place.

Freshman John Baranco posted a 230 (+14) in his second event with the Broncos to finish tied for 60th.

Chris Byrne followed with a 231 (+15) to tie for 62nd place.

Other Broncos finishers included Matt Hastings tying for 78th place with a 236 (+20), Scott Loewen in 87th with a 241 (+25) and Shawn Tonkin in 89th with a 245 (+29).

Boise State will continue play Mar. 19-20 at the Denver University Invitational.
