Merritt Wins Second Consecutive Tournament, Fourth of Season

Merritt led wire-to-wire at the OGIO Pacific Coast Intercollegiate as he captured his fourth victory of the 2007-08 season, tying a school record. Merritt opened the tournament by registering a 66 (-5) before shooting a 68 (-3) in the second and closing out with a 65 (-6) in the final round to win the tournament by eight strokes.
This was the second consecutive tournament victory for Merritt who captured the individual title at the Ron Moore Invitational with a school-record 200 (-16), Mar. 21-23. Merritt now leads the country in scoring with a 69.4 stroke per round average.
Aided by Merritt’s 65 (-6), the Broncos put on a charge in the third round to register a 284 (E) and move into a tie for second place in the 12-team with Cal Poly at 875 (+23).
John Baranco posted a 226 (+13) to finish tied for 27th place.
Matt Hastings and Kevin Tarango tied for 40th place with a 14-over 227.
