Merritt Falls in Playoff; Ties for 19th

BREMERTON, Wash. Troy Merritt of the Boise State University men’s golf team shot a 2-over 74, in the third round of the NCAA Div. I West Regional Championships, Saturday, May, 17.

 

Merritt tied for 19th place with two individuals from Wisconsin, after the competition of three rounds of play, with a 2-over 218. The three golfers were forced to a three-way playoff for the final individual selection from the west region. In the playoff, Wisconsin’s Dan Woltman eagled the par-5 ninth hole to edge his teammate Tyler Obermueller and Merritt for the individual selection to the NCAA Men’s Golf Championship in West Lafayette, Ind. May 28-31.

 

Merritt opened the day by bogeying hole No. 10 before going on to record birdie on three of the next four holes. He then registered six straight pars and sat 1-under heading into hole No. 3. He then posted one birdie, two pars and four bogeys to close out the west regional and the round 2-over par.
