Broncos Start Fall Season on High Notes

In her Bronco debut, freshman Rocio Frej quickly established herself as a major force by reaching the finals in the No. 2 singles draw. Frej swept her way through the bracket with three straight-set wins until she reached the finals. Frej fell in the finals to Elisabeth Fournier (
The Broncos were unstoppable in the doubles competitions, winning both the No. 1 draw title and the No. 2 draw title. Senior Laura Baum competed with Jochimsen in the No. 1 bracket. The pair took the first round match 8-5 over Laura Villegas and Jasper (
The four Broncos put together a combined score of 16-4 for the tournament.
Two members of the women’s tennis team also competed in the BYU Invitational over the past weekend. Senior Klaudia Wlodarczyk advanced into the semifinals of the consolation bracket before falling to Chie Hayasaka (BYU) 1-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7-0). In another Bronco debut, sophomore Lauren Megale advanced to the finals of the main draw, where she was defeated by McCall Jones (BYU) 6-3, 6-2. Megale defeated the No. 1 seed of the tournament, Christina Doerr (BYU) to earn her spot in the finals. Megale and Wlodarczyk also took the doubles title, making them the third duo of the weekend to earn a doubles title.
