Throughout the meet, the team competition was very close with Boise State Blue winning three of the four events outright. In a competition where four athletes compete and three of the four scores count, the Bronco Blue team posted marks of 29.250 on vault, 29.225 on bars, 29.125 on beam and 29.400 on floor. The Bronco Orange team produced very close marks of 29.375 on vault, 29.175 on bars, 28.80 on beam and 28.450 on floor.
Although the marks from the Beauty and the Beast gymnastics intrasquad will not count as official scores for the season, the Broncos were able to put up 20 marks that would have either tied or passed their season bests. Nine additional marks would have either tied or passing career bests.
“I am so proud of what we accomplished today,” explained co-head coach Tina Bird. “We tried some new skills, had some new competitors in the lineup and overall we were successful. [This meet shows that] it’s going to be a great year.”
On vault, seven of the eight competitors set season bests, while three tied or surpassed career bests. The vault finished in a three-way tie for first with sophomore Amy Glass, junior Ruthie Pennington and senior Shaniece Craft each posting marks of 9.80.
On bars, four season bests were matched or bettered including one additional career best being tied. Junior Taylor Jacob finished in a tie with Glass for first with a mark of 9.825. Sophomore Mallory Dziawura placed third in the event with a 9.775.
Three season bests and two personal bests were tied or matched on beam with two freshmen leading the way. Freshman Fiona Leslie picked up her first career win after scoring a 9.80 on beam while fellow freshman Cristy Dahlquist finished close behind in second with a score of 9.775. Jacob rounded out the top-three finishers with a score of 9.750.
On floor, five more season bests and two career bests were matched with sophomore Sarah Smith leading the way with an outstanding score of 9.90 to earn the floor title. Junior Yvette Leizorek snagged the second place spot with her score of 9.825 while Pennington finished third with a 9.725.
Glass was the only all-around competitor on the day, bettering her season high score to a 38.950. She posted scores of 9.80 on vault, 9.825 on bars, 9.650 on beam and 9.675 on floor.
After a three week hiatus, the Bronco gymnasts will return to team competition on January 23 when they travel to
