Three Broncos Qualify For NCAA Regional in Corvallis

BOISE, Idaho – Boise State will send three gymnasts to the 2026 NCAA Regional, the NCAA announced during its official selection show. senior Sydney Kho qualified on beam while sophomore Kristina Shchennikova and junior Mahleea Werline qualified on bars. The trio will compete in Corvallis, Oregon on Friday, April 3.
Kho earned a bid with her 9.845 NQS on beam, the best single-season mark of her career. She will enter the meet on a streak of seven-straight routines of 9.800 or higher, the program's longest since assistant coach Adriana Popp closed her career with eight-straight routines in 2024. This includes a career-high 9.900 routine at Stanford on March 15, which matched Boise State's top individual beam score of the year. The Rosemead, California, native claimed her first-career beam title in a March 13 home dual against Southern Utah, posting a 9.850. An All-Mountain West second team selection on the apparatus, Kho has been in the Broncos' beam lineup in every meet for the last three seasons and appeared in the team's vault lineup in all but two meets since joining the Blue and Orange in 2023. This will be her fourth time competing at an NCAA Regional and first time representing Boise State as an individual.
Shchennikova tallied a bars NQS of 9.850 to secure her regional berth. She has seven bars routines of 9.800 or higher in the last eight meets, including a 9.925 at California on March 7. This is Boise State's top bars score of the season and matches its top individual score on any apparatus. She earned the first bars crown of her career with a 9.875 performance in a Feb. 6 home quad against San Jose State, Oregon State and UC Davis. The Morrison, Colorado, native garnered All-MW second team honors on the apparatus for the second-straight year. She also competed on beam and floor, posting a career-high 9.900 in each event during the 2026 campaign. She is one of three gymnasts in the MW to score 9.900 or higher in three events this season. At last year's regional meet, Shchennikova competed for the Broncos, posting a 9.825 on bars and 9.800 on beam.
Werline also notched a bars NQS of 9.850 to qualify. She will enter the meet on a streak of seven-straight routines of 9.825 or higher, Boise State's longest streak since Emily Lopez had 11-straight routines from 2023-24. She won the first event title of her career with a career-best 9.900 in a March 13 home dual against Southern Utah, less than a week after posting a 9.875 at California. She also earned All-MW second team honors, the first conference accolade of her career. The Henderson, Nevada, native has appeared in the Broncos' bars lineup in all 37 meets since joining the team in 2024. This will be her third time competing at an NCAA Regional and first time representing Boise State as an individual.
Boise State's trio will compete during the second round of NCAA Regionals. The highest-scoring individual performer on a team that does not qualify for the NCAA Championships will earn a bid to the national meet, held April 16-18 in Fort Worth, Texas.
