BOISE STATE TAKES HOME TWO PAC-10 WRESTLING AWARDS

BOISE, Idaho The Pac-10 Conference announced its postseason awards for the 2008-09 season this week and Boise State has been honored twice. Head Coach Greg Randall was named Coach of the Year, while Jason Chamberlain received the Newcomer of the Year award.

            Randall earned his second Coach of the Year award after guiding the Broncos to their second consecutive Pac-10 tournament championship. He also earned Coach of the Year honors in 2008 after guiding the Broncos to the 2007-08 conference title. Randall has won three Pac-10 championships (2004, 2008 and 2009) in his seven seasons as head coach.

This season the Broncos compiled a 17-3 overall record, 8-0 in Pac-10 competition. Boise State captured six individual Pac-10 titles en route to breaking the all-time Pac-10 tournament scoring record (172.5 points). The Broncos also sent nine wrestlers to the NCAA National Championships where Boise State finished 12th in the team standings (46.5 points). Randall is 74-26 all-time at Boise State, including a 39-12 record in Pac-10 duals. He has led the Broncos to top-three finishes at the conference tournament six different times.

Chamberlain, a freshman from Springville, Utah (Springville HS), was named Newcomer of the Year after winning the 149-pound Pac-10 championship with a perfect 4-0 record at the conference tournament. Chamberlain finished the season with a 22-9 record (12-3 tournament, 10-6 dual). He started 16 of 20 duals for the Broncos, including the last 14 of the season.

By winning the Pac-10 tournament, Chamberlain also earned a berth at the NCAA tournament. He finished his first NCAA tournament with a 1-2 record, falling out on the second day of competition. Chamberlain finished the regular season ranked No. 16 at 149-pounds by USA Today/InterMat/NWCA. He captured one regular season tournament title by winning the Body Bar Tournament in Ithaca, NY.
