SAN FRANCISCO - Boise State's Geordan Martinez has been named the Pac-12 Wrestling Freshman of the Year, the league office announced Thursday.

Martinez, this season's Pac-12 Champion at 141 pounds, is the Broncos' first Pac-12 Freshman of the Year since Jason Chamberlain garnered the award in 2009.

In his debut season at Boise State Martinez went 30-7, earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships after becoming just the second Bronco freshman to win a conference championship.

He went 3-2 at the national tournament, falling just one victory shy of earning All-America status after being seeded eighth in his weight class.

Included in his 30 victories were eight pins, three major decisions and three technical falls.
