Bronco Wrestlers hand Oregon State 21-12 Defeat

BOISE, Idaho - Two of the top collegiate wrestling teams in the country faced off tonight (Feb. 12) at Taco Bell Arena with #12 Boise State University handing #15 Oregon State University a 21-12 defeat.
Competing in their final regular season dual, the Broncos improve to 14-3 and remain undefeated in Pac-10 Conference action at 7-0. The visiting Beavers fall to 18-2 and 6-2 in league play.
A major key to the Boise State win came in just the second match of the night as Sam Zylstra upset No. 13 ranked Clayton Jack of Oregon State with a pin at the 4:22 mark of their heavyweight match giving the Broncos a 9-0 lead.
Oregon State came back with wins at 125 pounds and 133 pounds to cut the Bronco lead to 9-6, before Boise State won three straight matches to take control of the dual at 18-6.
All three Bronco wins came from three of Boise State's top 10 ranked wrestlers.
Levi Jones, No. 4 at 141 pounds, started the string of wins with an 11-8 decision over Mike Mangrum. No. 6 Jason Chamberlain followed with an 8-5 win at 149 pounds over RJ Pena, before No. 3 Adam Hall scored a takedown with just three seconds remaining in the 157-pound match for a 4-2 win over No. 13 Keegan Davis.
After losing close matches at 165 and 174 pounds, Boise State's Kirk Smith closed out the night as the No. 1 ranked wrestler in the country at 184 pounds handed Ty Vinson an 8-2 loss.
Boise State will now spend the next two weeks preparing to defend its Pac-10 Conference Championship. This year's league tournament will be held Feb. 26 and 27 (Friday and Saturday) on the UC Davis campus.
