Vo Leads Broncos at ITA Mountain Regional

Vo reaches ITA Mountain Regional Quarterfinals.
LAS VEGAS, Nev. (10/14/2012) - Boise State women's tennis completed its competition at the 2012 ITA Mountain Region in Las Vegas, Nev., this week with junior Sandy Vo advancing the furthest reaching the quarterfinals in singles. Marlena Pietzuch won three straight matches to make the round of 16, while the doubles team of Sandy Vo and Morgan Basil also reached the round of 16.
The ITA Mountain Regional was the final of four tournaments for the Boise State women's team this fall who will now focus on classes and prepare for the official start of the team season in January.
Boise State finished the ITA Regional with an overall 17-14 record in singles and a 4-5 mark in doubles. Five of the eight Broncos representing Boise State at the regional won their first match and advanced to the round of 64 in the championship bracket.
Only Vo, Marlena Pietzuch and Sammie Watson advanced further into the regional. Vo made the quarterfinals for the Broncos with four straight victories over Julie Tukuafu of Utah State (6-3, 6-2), Heather Davidson from Montana (6-4, 6-2), Simona Synkova of Wyoming (6-4, 7-6) and Michaela Bezdickova from New Mexico (6-7, 6-4, 6-4). The junior from Melbourne, Australia, fell in the quarterfinals to Sarah Pham from Utah in straight sets 6-4, 7-5.
Marlena Pietzuch won three matches to reached the round of 16 for the second year in a row. Pietzuch collected straight set wins over Lisa Waldron from BYU (6-1, 6-0), Ella Bourchier of UNLV (6-2, 6-3) and Wyoming's Jessica Parizher (6-2, 6-1). Unfortunately, the senior's attempt to advance further than her run last year came up short in the round of 16 when she lost a hard fought three set match to sixth-seeded Veronica Popovici of Wyoming (6-3, 4-6, 6-2).
Joining those two in the round of 32 was sophomore Sammie Watson who defeated Weber State's Ashley Tanner (6-4, 6-3) and Denver's Steffi Rath (6-4, 7-6) in the first two rounds. Watson's hopes of moving on in the tournament came up short when UNLV's Lucia Batta (6-1, 6-0) defeated her in the round of 32.
The other five Broncos who competed at the regional were Manuela Pietzuch who went 2-1, Bobbi Oshiro (2-1), Morgan Basil (2-2), Megan LaLone (1-2) and Teal Vosburgh (1-3).
Representing the Broncos in the round of 16 in doubles was Sandy Vo and Morgan Basil. The junior duo downed Northern Arizona's team of Malia Wahinepio and Alice Pacaut 8-3 in the round of 64, then defeated New Mexico's Michaela Oldani and Nikolina Grbac 8-1 in the next round. The Boise State team's run ended in the round of 16 when UNLV's pair of Nives Pavlovic and Lucia Batta handed them an 8-2 loss.
The doubles team of Marlena Pietzuch and Maneula Pietzuch, along with the pair of Bobbi Oshiro and Megan LaLone each won their first round match to advance into the round of 32. Unfortunately, they each lost their second round matches to finish 1-1 at the regional.
