DeLaet Tied for Lead at PGA's BMW Championship

CARMEL, Ind. – Former Boise State men’s golfer Graham DeLaet is tied for the lead after the opening round of the BMW Championship, Thursday.
DeLaet fired an 8-under-par 64 at the Crooked Stick Golf Course, recording an eagle on No. 9 – his 18th hole of the day – to move into a tie at the top of the leaderboard with Rory McIlroy, Webb Simpson and Bo Van Pelt.
“That was a nice way to finish for sure,” DeLaet told PGATOUR.com. “Nonetheless, I had a good round. I was just kind of looking for a birdie there, but that was just a bonus.”
DeLaet and the three individuals he is tied with lead Tiger Woods and Vijay Singh by a stroke headed into Friday’s second round.
In addition to the eagle, DeLaet also recorded seven birdies and just one bogey.
“I guess you always can (go lower), but I made some really good par saves on my back nine today that kind of kept the momentum going. I’m definitely satisfied shooting 8-under-par.”

DeLaet is scheduled to tee off on the first tee Friday at 7:50 a.m. (MT).
The BMW Championship is the third event of the PGA TOUR Playoffs. After the three events, the top 30 golfers will advance to the TOUR Championship presented by Coca-Cola. DeLaet, who entered the BMW Championship ranked No. 60, likely needs a high finish to advance.
