ST. GEORGE, Utah - Boise State sophomore Logan France is tied for the lead after the opening round of the Thunderbird Invitational Monday, the Broncos' opening tournament of the spring season.

France posted a bogey-free opening round, notching five birdies en route to a career-low 5-under 67 at the 6,801-yard Sunbrook Golf Club.

He and Utah Valley's J.T. Timmons will enter the final round with a one-stroke edge over four individuals tied for third place - a group that includes Bronco junior Ty Travis.

Travis carded a 4-under 68, his 11th sub-par showing in 16 rounds since joining the Broncos this season from Weber State. His scoring average, which now sits at 70.13, ranks second all-time at Boise State, trailing only Troy Merritt's school-record 69.53 set in 2007-08.

The Broncos are in third place after carding a team score of 291 (+3). Boise State trails tournament-leader Utah Valley by seven strokes, and second-place Seattle by one stroke.

Freshman Mark Brassey recorded a career-low, 2-under 70, and will enter the final round in a tie for eighth. Brassey was competing as an individual, and thus his score does not count toward the team total.

Redshirt senior Jordan Skyles (77, +5) and freshmen David Elliott (79, +7) and Kyle Mitsunaga (82, +10) rounded out the scoring for the Broncos.

The final round is scheduled to begin with a shotgun start Tuesday at 9 a.m.
