Men's Golf Finishes Opening Day at Chambers Bay

UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. - Redshirt senior Jordan Skyles leads the Boise State men's golf team following the opening two rounds of the Redhawk Invitational, Monday.

The tournament is being held at Chambers Bay, home of the 2015 U.S. Open.

Skyles carded rounds of 73-72, and is 5-over (145) at the course, which is playing at par 70 and 7,047 yards for the tournament. He will enter the final round three strokes back of the top 25.

Freshman David Elliott (72-74) and junior Ty Travis (72-74) are each one stroke back of their senior teammate after shooting 146 (+6).

San Diego's Grant Forrest leads the tournament with a 12-under 128 (63-65).

The Broncos are in 13th place in a loaded field that includes three of the top 30 schools in the country. Boise State posted team scores of 287-296 (583, +23), and are within six strokes of the top 10.

No. 15 UCLA and San Diego lead the tournament at 556 (-4).

Rounding out the scoring for the Broncos were freshmen Mark Brassey (70-78--148, +8) and Kyle Mitsunaga (73-76--149, +9).

The final round of the Redhawk Invitational is scheduled to begin with a 9 a.m. (MT) shotgun start.
