SALT LAKE CITY--The Boise State men and women cross country teams competed at the Utah Open for the first meet of the 2014 season. Seven-time All American Emma Bates took first place in 14:10.1 (four-kilometer) and David Elliott took first place on the men's side in 19:14.5 (six-kilometer).

The Bronco women nabbed first place beating Utah and Weber State. Redshirt senior Marisa Howard took second place with a time of 14:23.5. Sophomore Sarah Hastings crossed the finish line fourth in 14:38.7. Senior Tessa Murray finished fifth in 14:51 while fellow senior Rici Morrill took 25th in 16:21.0.

On the men's side, David Elliott won his first collegiate meet in 19:14.5. Freshman Andrew Rafla impressed in his rookie debut, finishing fourth (19:19.2). Rhys Park took 12th (19:38.0). Junior Aaron Back (20:02.0) and freshman Louis McAfee (20:10.3) took 20th and 21st, respectively, and Dan Oekerman finished 25th (20:17.5).

Next up for the Broncos will be the Roy Griak Invitational, hosted by the University of Minnesota on Sept. 27.
