No. 10 Broncos Remain Perfect

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The No. 10 Broncos capitalized on their strongest showing on balance beam (49.100) so far this season to propel themselves to the 196.275 - 193.700 win over San Jose State Friday night in San Jose. The win moves Boise State to a perfect 7-0 on the season, giving them their best start in program history since 1988 when the team opened the year 11-0.
The solid balance beam effort came in the fourth rotation, while Boise State's best event came in the opening rotation when they notched a 49.250 on uneven bars.
"We started and finished like champs," said co-head coach Neil Resnick. "We need to go home and work on the two events in the middle."
Sandra Collantes won the all-around title with a 39.150, Maddie Krentz won on floor thanks to a 9.9, Krystine Jacobsen secured the victory on uneven bars with a 9.95 and Mackenzie Bennion won on vault after recording a 9.825.
The uneven bars saw Jacobsen (9.95) lead the way, followed by Krentz and Bennion who both earned 9.85's. Shani Remme earned a 9.825 and Collantes rounded out the opening event score with a 9.775 to secure the 49.250.
On vault, the Broncos showed flashes of promise in the form of Bennion and her 9.825, and also Mary Frances Bir who garnered a 9.8. After those two it was Collantes (9.775), Krentz (9.75) and Remme (9.675) making up the 48.825. Boise State held a 98.075 - 97.625 lead at the midway point of the meet.
The Broncos then moved to floor where Krentz picked up the title with a 9.9 and fellow senior Jacobsen was the second-best Bronco after earning a 9.85. Urquhart recorded a career-high 9.825 and Collantes came up with a 9.775. Marissa Wossner also contributed a 9.75, giving the visitors a 49.100 in the event.
Balance beam - the event of the night for Boise State - was an example of pure consistency. Collantes, Remme, Jacobsen and Urquhart all garnered 9.825's, and Molly McFarland excelled with a 9.8.
"So proud of my beam team," said co-head coach Tina Bird. "They have found their stride and will just continue to get better."
The Broncos' long-awaited home opener will finally take place next weekend on Friday, Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. at Taco Bell Arena when the No. 10 Broncos take on No. 23 Ohio State.
