LARAMIE, Wyo. (Feb. 13, 2016) - A cold start doomed the Broncos on Saturday in Laramie, Wyo., as Boise State fell 82-58 to the Wyoming Cowgirls for a second straight loss. The Broncos shooting woes continued as they made 30.1 percent against the Cowgirls.

A pair of freshmen led the Broncos in Marijke Vanderschaaf and Marta Hermida with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Boise State trailed the entire way after Wyoming opened on a 13-0 run. The loss moves Boise State to 16-8 overall and 9-4 in conference play. Next up is a home game Wednesday against New Mexico before getting a bye next weekend.

"It was not a very good performance on our part," said coach Gordy Presnell. "Every season has a low point and hopefully this is ours. Now we just got to regroup and finish the season as strong as we can, there is still a lot to play for."

Marijke Vanderschaaf was one of two Broncos in double-figure points scoring 10 of her game-high 12 in the fourth quarter. The freshman went 6-of-6 from the free-throw line and 3-of-5 from the floor to go with five rebounds. It is the sixth time that the freshman has reached double-digits in points this season.

Marta Hermida scored 10 points in the loss to go with three rebounds and one assist. The freshman from Spain scored six points in the final period as the Broncos attempted to rally.

The first half was controlled by the Cowgirls as they shot 42 percent (14-33) from the floor and 33 percent (5-15) from 3-point range to take a 13-point 35-22 lead into halftime.

Boise State opened the game cold missing their first eight shots mixed in with four turnovers. Yaiza Rodriguez Ortego scored the Broncos first points on a right wing 3-pointer with 4:36 left in the first quarter to make it UW 11-3.

Wyoming took a half-high 15 point lead at 35-20 with 1:46 remaining in the second quarter. Shalen Shaw closed the gap to 13 points at the half when she hit a jumper with 57 seconds left.

After the Cowgirls opened the third on a 5-0 run, Wyoming used a 20-4 run to put the game away in the third quarter leading by 30, 64-34, at the end of the period.

The subs played most of the fourth for both teams as the Broncos came back to make it a 24-point deficit at the end.

On the day, Boise State shot 30.1 percent (22-73) from the floor, a season-low 8.7 percent (2-23) from the arc and 85.7 percent (12-14) from the free-throw line.

Wyoming countered by shooting 47.3 percent (26-55) from the floor, 41.7 percent (10-24) from the arc and 80 percent (20-25) from the free-throw line.

This was the 17th meeting in the series with Wyoming's victory breaking a 8-8 tie in the series to go up 9-8. Boise State has never won in Laramie in seven trips.
