Rypien, Wilson Named To Award Lists

BOISE, Idaho - Tuesday morning brought more recognition for a pair of Broncos as junior quarterback Brett Rypien was named to the Wuerffel Trophy Watch List and senior wide receiver Cedrick Wilson was tabbed as a candidate for the Biletnikoff Award.
The Wuerffel Trophy, known as "College Football's Premier Award for Community Service," is awarded to the FBS player that best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement. The Biletnikoff Award is presented annually to college football's top receiver, regardless of position.
For Rypien, it is the third award watch list to which he has been named this preseason. Last week, he was named a candidate for the Maxwell Award and for the Allstate AFCA Good Hands Team. Wilson, meanwhile, has now been included on an award's watch list for the second-straight day as Monday he was named a candidate for the Paul Hornung Award.
Last season, Rypien was named to the All-Mountain West First Team for the second year in a row, leading the Mountain West and finishing 12th nationally in passing yards (3,646), while also pacing the conference in completions (244) and attempts (394) while finishing second with 24 touchdown passes. He directed a Bronco offense that led the Mountain West and ranked 21st in the country in total offense with 472.8 yards per game, while the Bronco passing offense ranked 15th in the country and also paced the Mountain West at 298.3 yards per contest.
Rypien also led the Mountain West with six 300-yard passing performances in 2016, four more than the next-closest quarterback. His efforts included two of the Mountain West's top-three passing efforts of last season, first throwing for 442 yards and three touchdowns against BYU (Oct. 20), two weeks after passing for 391 yards and five scores in the Broncos' win at New Mexico (Oct. 7).
In his debut season at Boise State in 2016, Wilson caught 56 passes for 1,129 yards and a team-leading 11 touchdowns en route to being named All-Mountain West Honorable Mention. During the second half of the season, Wilson flashed his play-making abilities as part of the Bronco return game, averaging 21.3 yards per kick return and 13.2 yards over 10 punt returns, including a 73-yard return Nov. 18 against UNLV.
He posted five 100-yard receiving games, including performances of nine catches for 167 yards and three touchdowns at New Mexico (Oct. 7) and four receptions for a season-high 193 yards and a score at Air Force (Nov. 25).
Wilson finished the season ranked in the Mountain West top 10 in touchdown catches (third), receiving yards (fourth), receiving yards per game (86.8, fourth), receptions (sixth) and receptions per game (4.3, ninth).
Boise State opens its 2017 campaign Sept. 2 at Albertsons Stadium, hosting Troy at 1:45 p.m.
