WHAT THEY SAID
Head Coach Shawn Garus
On starting Mountain West play with a sweep . . .
"I was proud of the overall team effort. I thought a lot of people contributed, even if we were just asking them to come in and make a tough serve, or come in and block a ball. I just felt like that was a good growth match for our team. We didn't come in firing on all cylinders, but we were still able to get the win."
On the impact depth will have on the season . . .
"I think that if we can continue to get production off our bench, it can take some pressure off of our kids that have to carry a huge load. You know everyone is gunning for you, you know you're getting their best effort, you know everyone wants to knock off the defending champions. If we can get a decent amount of production from our kids, I think it just allows us to attack other teams as a whole team, not just one or two players."
On who he thought played well tonight . . .
"I thought Jensen Allen did a great job coming in and serving, that helped us a lot. We were serving against a rotation that was pretty tough for us tonight. She did a nice job getting the other team out of the system. I like what the middles are doing with their blocking, they're doing a nice job keying on certain hitters and slowing them down. Overall just a nice team effort. Obviously Kiley (Lewis) did a good job tonight as a starter. She's just a freshman, so what an exciting upside for her."
Senior Sabryn Roberts
On starting Mountain West play with a sweep . . .
"I think we played alright against Fresno State, the sweep is good, but we just need to play steady and not to high, not too low."
Freshman Kiley Lewis
On starting Mountain West play with a sweep . . .
"For our first conference game, I thought everyone came out really focused, and our defense was really good. Jaymee (Bulda) did a really good job of locating the balls to the pins in the middle, and getting everyone involved. I thought it was a good start to conference."
On her increased playing time . . .
"I just came in and focused on my passing and hitting, and trying to hit high off the hands."
