Balanced offensive attack and Roberts' double-double leads Broncos to victory over the Aggies.

LOGAN, Utah  - Boise State won a tightly contested battle and was forced into five sets before getting a key road win at Utah State Tuesday night as the Broncos held on to edge the Aggies 25-13, 23-25, 26-24, 20-25, 15-11 at Logan, Utah. Boise State was helped by a balanced offensive attack against the Aggies as five Broncos tallied nine or more kills in the contest.

Senior Sabryn Roberts led the way with her ninth double-double of the season on a team-high 17 kills and 13 digs. She hit 41.9 percent in the match and added four blocks in the win.

"I'm happy that we had a lot of people contribute to this win tonight, it is big for us to win on the road in conference," said Boise State head coach Shawn Garus. "I thought it was big that we had a balanced offensive effort tonight with Jessica Donahue playing a big part in that with 16 kills and seven blocks. Sabryn (Roberts) was solid offensively as well with her double-double, also Cassedi Simon did a great job serving with the five aces.

"I'm excited overall for the victory and that we are finally going to play at home on Saturday in front of our fans in Bronco Gym. Our fans play a big role for us at home and we're going to need them against a good Air Force team Saturday afternoon."

Freshman Jessica Donahue had a big night as well for the blue and orange recording a career-high 16 kills while hitting a team-best 46.6 percent. Donahue also had a team-high seven blocks at the net.

Carly Moreno, a freshman from Yorba Linda, Calif., started at outside hitter and turned in a career performance tallying a career-high 11 kills by hitting 25.9 percent, with one block.

The fourth Bronco in double-digit kills was sophomore Kiley Lewis who collected 10 to go with a service ace, eight digs and three kills.

Senior Morgan Hughes chipped in nine kills, three service aces, six digs and three blocks against the Aggies.

Meanwhile, Danielle Boss and Cassedi Simon split time at setter with Boss dishing out a team-high 27 assists with seven digs. Simon added 26 assists along with two kills, a team and career-high five service aces — tying for fourth-most in program history — and eight digs.

Jessie Brigham collected a team-high 17 digs at the libero position; while Shae Duffy added four kills, one dig and one block.

Boise State out hit Utah State 27.3 percent to 19.9 percent. The Broncos had 69 kills on 65 assists, nine service aces, 63 digs and 10 blocks. The Aggies finished with 55 kills on 52 assists with seven service aces, 51 digs and eight blocks.

Outside of the first set which the Broncos dominated, the other four went back and forth between the two teams. In a match that lasted just over two and half hours the contest saw a combined 14 lead changes and 38 ties.

The decisive fifth set saw Boise State jump out to a 10-4 lead only to see USU rally and close within one at 10-9. The Broncos regrouped and out scored the Aggies 5-2 down the stretch capped off by kills from Hughes and Roberts, respectively, to clinch the victory 15-11 and the match 3-2.
