BOISE, Idaho - Boise State nose tackle Matt Locher and offensive lineman John Molchon were both named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District 7 Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Thursday.
Locher and Molchon were each recognized for the second-straight year for their excellence both on the field and in the classroom. To be eligible for the CoSIDA honor, nominees must possess a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.30, hold at least sophomore athletic standing, and have spent at least one full academic year at their current institution.
Both Broncos now move on to the national ballot, seeking a spot on the CoSIDA Academic All-America Football Team.
Locher has appeared in all 10 games this season, recording 14 tackles (four solo) including 2.5 tackles-for-loss and a sack on the front line of a defense that currently ranks 27th in the country against the run (125.9 rushing yards per game). In the classroom, Locher maintains a 3.97 cumulative grade-point average while majoring in finance.
Molchon has started all 10 games this year on the Bronco offensive line, which is on pace to clear the way for a 1,000-yard rusher for the 10th-straight season as running back Alexander Mattison is currently at 870 rushing yards. Additionally, the Bronco offensive line has provided protection for quarterback Brett Rypien as he leads the 20th-ranked offense in the country (466.6 yards per game) and is currently ranked in the national top 20 in completions per game (24.6, seventh), passing yards (3,048, seventh), completion percentage (68.9, ninth), passing yards per game (304.2, 10th), passing touchdowns (25, eighth), passing efficiency (159.8, 16th)
Off the field, Molchon, like Locher a finance major, boasts a 3.72 cumulative GPA.
No. 23/24 Boise State (8-2, 5-1 MW) makes its final road trip of the regular season, visiting New Mexico for a 7 p.m. kick Friday night. The contest will air on CBS Sports Network.
