Broncos Run To 93-26 Win Over Northwest Christian

11/16/2018 9:11:00 PM | Women's Basketball

BOISE, Idaho - Boise State sped out to a 16-0 run to open Friday's game against Northwest Christian, and went on to a 93-26 win over the Beacons.

The contest served as the Broncos' final tuneup ahead of Monday's litmus test against No. 5/4 Louisville, a 2018 NCAA Tournament rematch set for a 7 p.m. tip at Taco Bell Arena. Monday's game against the Cardinals will be a Blackout game, as Boise State will wear its all-black uniforms and fans are encouraged to wear black.

Louisville, currently ranked fifth in the Associated Press Poll, matches the highest-ranked AP team to come into Taco Bell Arena for a meeting with the Broncos. No. 5 Georgia beat the Broncos, 91-51, in Boise on Dec. 20, 1998.

"It was good game for us to get to play everybody. Try to execute things correctly. And get ready for a huge week for us," said Boise State head coach Gordy Presnell.

Friday, Riley Lupfer opened the scoring with a 3-pointer 1:17 into the contest, and finished the night with 12 points while going 2-for-4 from 3-point range over 14 minutes of action. A'Shanti Coleman, who finished the night with 10 points, scored seven points over Boise State's game-opening run, capping it with a three-point play with 5:03 left in the first quarter.

Northwest Christian (3-4) cracked the scoreboard 12 seconds later, as Morgan McKinney finished a layup through contact then completed the three-point play. Dani Baker would hit a 3-pointer with 3:13 left in the frame, bringing Northwest Christian within 15 at 21-6, but the Beacons would go scoreless for the next 11:01 as Boise State (3-0) built its lead to 52-6. The Beacons finally broke their scoring drought with a free throw from Kaylynn Bruh 2:12 before the half, and the freebie would end up being their only point of the quarter.

Boise State's 31-0 run over that span was fueled by seven points from Ellie Woerner, who scored a game- and career-high 14 for the Broncos to go with a career-high eight rebounds. For the night, Boise State shot 56.1 percent (37-for-66) from the floor, including 50.0 percent (11-for-22) from deep. Woerner was perfect in three attempts from behind the arc, while Lupfer and freshman Jade Loville each had a pair of triples.

Braydey Hodgins finished with five points, three assists, and two steals as the Bronco defense held Northwest Christian to just eight field goals, an all-time record low for a Bronco opponent. The Beacons shot just 13.6 percent (8-for-59) in the contest.

"[Our performance] gives us a little confidence going into our Monday night game [against Louisville]. All week we've practiced hard, and it's a different kind of caliber than we've been at, and I think we're all excited for Monday's game," Hodgins said.
