BOISE, Idaho -Â Boise State head coach Bryan Harsin was named to the 2018 Preseason Dodd Trophy Watch List Wednesday. The list includes 20 of the nation's top college football coaches representing all Power 5 conferences along with the Mountain West and Notre Dame.
Harsin is the only head coach from the Mountain West named to the 20-person list, which includes the bosses of programs from such conferences as the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12, and SEC, along with Notre Dame's Brian Kelly.
The watch list was created through a selection process by the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Foundation and Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, taking into consideration each program's graduation rate, commitment to service and charity in the community, projected success for the 2018 season and Academic Progress Rate (APR). Coaches in their first year with their current program are ineligible to receive the Dodd Trophy.
Harsin enters his fifth season as the head coach at his alma mater in 2018, boasting a record of 42-12 over the first four years of his tenure, and an average of more than 10 wins per season. Overall, Harsin is 49-17 as a head coach – including one season at Arkansas State – and has led his programs to bowl games following each campaign.
Boise State is coming off of its second Mountain West championship season under Harsin, having rolled to a 7-1 conference record and a title-game victory over Fresno State in 2017. The Broncos capped the 11-3 campaign with a 38-28 victory over Oregon in the Las Vegas Bowl, and ranked 22nd in the final Associated Press and Amway Coaches Polls.
Wednesday's announcement also marks the fourth season in which Harsin has been named a Dodd Trophy candidate (2014-16, 2018), while he was a finalist in 2014 while leading Boise State to a Mountain West title and VIZIO Fiesta Bowl victory.
Boise State opens the 2018 season Sept. 1 at Troy, with its home opener one week later against Connecticut (Sept. 8) at Albertsons Stadium.
