BOISE, Idaho - Boise State senior quarterback Brett Rypien was named to his fourth watch list of the preseason Friday, as he was the only Mountain West player to be reognized as a candidate for the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award.

Rypien, who has also been named to the watch lists of the Maxwell Award, Davey O'Brien Award, and the Wuerffel Trophy this preseason, was recognized Tuesday morning at the start of the 2018 Mountain West Football Media Summit, being named the conference's Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. He is only the second Bronco to earn the honor, following Kellen Moore in 2011.

Rypien enters the 2018 campaign as the FBS active career leader in passing yardage at 9,876, and is just 2,815 yards shy of becoming the Mountain West's all-time leader (San Diego State's Ryan Lindley is the all-time leader at 12,690). The Spokane, Wash., native is coming off of a 2017 season in which he earned his third-straight All-MW nod, being named to the Second Team.

After a slow start to the campaign, which included an injury that knocked him out of Sept. 9's game at Washington State and forced him to miss the Sept. 14 game against New Mexico, Rypien has found his groove during Boise State's final seven games. Over that stretch, Rypien completed 162-of-256 passes (63.3 percent) for 2,231 yards and 15 touchdowns, bringing his final 2017 totals to 2,877 passing yards and 16 touchdowns along with a 62.6 completion percentage.

Boise State, the unanimous selection by the Mountain West media to capture the Mountain Division in 2018, opens the campaign Saturday, Sept. 1, at Troy. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 pm. MT and will be televised on ESPNews.
