SPRINGVILLE, Utah – The Boise State women's golf team closed out the Hobble Creek Fall Classic with a 294 in the third round to finish in a tie for fifth with Northern Arizona, Tuesday at Hobble Creek Golf Course. The Broncos lowered their score and moved up the leaderboard each round in their season opener.
Boise State concluded the tournament with a three-round score of 893 (304-295-294, +41). It is the lowest team score since the team shot 892 at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic (April 4-5, 2016), and is tied for eighth on the school record book.
"We got off to a really solid start for our first event," head coach Nicole Bird said. "To count all scores in the 70s – and one in the 60s – shows what everyone is capable of. Tara was a great leader for our team on the course, and I think we will continue to improve and grow more confident as others learn from her experience. We made a lot of birdies and eagles this week, and I think we're in a great place moving forward."
Tara Finigan led the team in her Boise State debut, finishing in a tie for fourth at 216 (77-68-71, +3). The 216 is tied for the seventh-lowest 54-hole score in program history. The senior transfer had two par-or-better rounds on the week, rising up the leaderboard each round.
Sophomore Lexi Perry held consistent throughout the week to finish in a tie for 13th. Perry ended with a 223 (73-77-73, +10) for the fourth top 25 finish of her career. Firing off a 1-over 72 in the final round, fellow sophomore Alejandra Lobelo rose 18 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for 29th – just a stroke back of the top 25. Lobelo concluded the week with a 227 (78-77-72, +14).
Competing as an individual, Valentine Lacaze finished in a tie for 32nd, shooting 228 (80-75-73, +15).
Nicole Suppelsa (76-75-78 – 229, +16) rounded out the scoring for Boise State, while Jalayne Martinez rounded out the lineup (86-75-82 – 243, +30).
The Broncos will return to action next week at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic (Sept. 17-19) in Fort Collins, Colo.
