Roberts and Walley named to Boise State Classic All-Tournament Team.
BOISE, Idaho (9/15/2018) - Sabryn Roberts' team-high 12 kills led Boise State as the Broncos cruised past Sacramento State in three sets 25-4, 25-22, 25-15 Saturday afternoon to closeout the Boise State Classic. It was all Broncos as they dominated the Hornets — who led only once during the entire contest — hitting 30.1 percent while holding Sacramento State to 1.1 percent, a season-low for a Boise State opponent. The win closes out the nonconference schedule for the Blue and Orange who improved to 8-3 on the year.
Roberts and Janell Walley were both named to the all-tournament team as the duo led the Broncos throughout the four matches played on weekend as Boise Sate opened its home schedule going 2-2. Roberts finished the tournament leading the Broncos in kills with 64 to average 4.57 per set while hitting a team-best 33.8 percent, she also had two service aces, 33 digs and eight blocks. Walley added 39 kills hitting 27 percent with three service aces, 44 digs and eight blocks.Â
This afternoon, Roberts tallied the team high in kills for the 11th time this season while hitting 29.6 percent, in addition to adding seven digs and a block. She was the lone Bronco in double figure kills.
Kiley Lewis hit 30.4 percent for eight kills with two assists, two digs and four blocks. Walley followed with seven kills while hitting a team-high 35.7 percent with two service aces, team-high 13 digs and three blocks.Â
Freshman Jessica Donahue chipped in with six kills and team-high eight blocks, she had five blocks in the first set. Danielle Boss dished out a team-high 27 assists to go with two kills, six digs and one block.Â
Boise State opened the match on a 9-0 run to storm into control of set one from first serve. The Broncos never looked back as they raced out to a 25-4 set victory by hitting 35.7 percent and holding the Hornets to a minus 19.4 percent.
The second set was a tight battle as Sacramento State led early. Down two at 9-7, Boise State rolled off a 4-0 run to go up 11-9 to take momentum. The Broncos never trailed again and led by as many as five points (22-17) as they held the Hornets at arms length the rest of the way in claiming the second set victory by three points 25-22.Â
After a tight second period, Boise State left no doubt in the third as to what the outcome would be. The Broncos methodically pulled away breaking open a 2-2 tie by rolling off a 10-2 run to go up a commanding eight points at 12-4. The home team then cruised to the set win hitting a match-high 44 percent to put it away by 10 points at 25-15. Â
