BOISE, Idaho -Â The Boise State football team, ranked No. 14 in both the AP and Coaches Polls, respectively, will square off against Hawai'i Saturday (Oct. 12) at Albertsons Stadium in the Broncos' annual Homecoming game.
Kickoff between the Broncos (5-0, 2-0 MW) and Rainbow Warriors (4-1, 1-0 MW) is set for 8:15 p.m., and the game will be nationally televised by ESPN2.
CLIMBING THE RANKINGS: The Broncos' No. 14 ranking is the highest in each poll since checking in at No. 13 both the AP and Coaches Polls Oct. 23, 2016, prior to a road match-up with Wyoming. The Broncos, 7-0 at the time, fell on the road to the Cowboys (30-28; Oct. 29) that week, and dropped to No. 24 in each poll.
THE SERIES: Boise State leads the all-time series, 12-3, and has won six-consecutive games against the Rainbow Warriors since a 2007 defeat in Honolulu (39-27). The loss is sandwiched by a pair of six-game winning streaks, as the Broncos are 12-1 since becoming conference foes in the WAC in 2001. The Broncos' other two losses came in 1996 (20-14) and 1999 (34-19), both on the islands. The Broncos have never lost at home, going a perfect 6-0.
FIESTA BOWL REUNION: Boise State will honor its 2009 squad Saturday against Hawaii, a team that went a perfect 14-0 and capped its season with a 17-10 victory over TCU in the Fiesta Bowl. Boise State concluded the season ranked No. 4 in both the Associated Press and Coaches Polls. There are more than 40 members of the team expected to return for Saturday's game.
OCTOBER RECORD: Boise State is 19-3 under Bryan Harsin during the month of October, including last week's 38-13 victory over UNLV. Since joining the Western Athletic Conference in 2001, Boise State is 69-5 during the month of October, and 80-14 since joining the FBS in 1996.
PERFECT IN 2019: Entering this week, there are only 16 undefeated teams in college football, including the Broncos. Joining Boise State amongst the undefeated are Alabama, Appalachian State, Baylor, Clemson, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Memphis, Minnesota, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Penn State, SMU, Wake Forest and Wisconsin.
LOOKING FOR BOWL ELIGIBILITY: With a victory over Hawai'i, the Broncos will have secured bowl eligibility for the 22nd-consecutive season. Boise State has been selected for bowl games in each of the previous 17 seasons, tied with Wisconsin for the fifth-longest streak in the country. At 8-4, the Broncos were bowl eligible in 2001, but not selected for a bowl.
AIR ATTACK THIS SATURDAY?: Saturday's matchup with Hawai'i could see a lot of air traffic as it pits the Mountain West's top-two passing offenses, and two national top-eight air attacks. The Rainbow Warriors rank fourth with 356.8 passing yards per game, led by Cole McDonald (1,629 yards, 17 touchdowns, nine interceptions, 68.9 completion pct.), while the Broncos are eighth at 323.0 yards per game, paced by freshman Hank Bachmeier (1,489 yards, eight touchdowns, three interceptions, 63.5 completion pct.).
