BOISE, Idaho – The Boise State football team announced its 2019 team awards at its annual banquet earlier this week. The top awards went to redshirt junior STUD Curtis Weaver (Team MVP), senior wide receiver John Hightower and sophomore wide receiver Khalil Shakir (Co-Offensive MVP) and senior safety Kekoa Nawahine (Defensive MVP).

Weaver, who was named to the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year, leads the Mountain West and ranks fifth nationally with 13.5 sacks. His 18.5 tackles-for-loss is also tops in the conference and is tied for ninth in FBS. His 34-career sacks are a Mountain West record.

Hightower leads the Broncos with 923 receiving yards and eight touchdown receptions. He averages 25.4 yards on kickoff returns and took one 98 yards to the house against Portland State. He garnered All-Mountain West Second Team as both a wide receiver and kick returner.

Shakir has registered a team-best 60 receptions for 834 receiving yards. He has six receiving touchdowns, three rushing scores and a touchdown pass. He was named All-Mountain West honorable mention.

Nawahine leads Boise State with three interceptions, including one in the Broncos' 31-10 win over Hawai'i in the Mountain West Football Championship. He has recorded 54 tackles, a forced fumble and a pair of fumble recoveries.

Redshirt-junior cornerback Avery Williams was named Special Team MVP for the third-consecutive year. Twice, he returned a punt for a touchdown, 66 yards at San Jose State and 74 yards at Utah State. The Mountain West Special Teams Player of the Year blocked a PAT against Air Force and a punt against Wyoming. He was All-Mountain West First Team as a punt returner and honorable mention at cornerback.

Redshirt junior Ezra Cleveland and sixth-year senior David Moa took home the Outstanding Offensive and Defensive Lineman Awards, respectively. Cleveland won the award for the second-straight season. He has helped the Broncos average 174.2 yards a game on the ground, their most since 2016. Moa has notched 33 tackles and his third-down sack at Colorado State on the Rams' final drive helped preserve Boise State's first undefeated conference record since joining the Mountain West.

Freshman running back George Holani captured the Blue Blood (First-Year Player) Award. He leads Boise State with 979 rushing yards and has scored nine times (seven rushing, two receiving). He scored four touchdowns on the ground at San Jose and racked up 178 yards at Utah State.

Junior wide receiver Octavius Evans won the Dan Paul Hammer Award, given to the most unselfish special teams player, as selected by the coaches.
