The Athletic Tabs Weaver, Holani

BOISE, Idaho - All-America Season continues to bring its cheer to Boise State, as redshirt junior STUD Curtis Weaver and freshman running back George Holani were each honored by The Athletic.

Weaver, already named to the CBS Sports All-America First Team, followed up his Midseason All-America selection by The Athletic by being named to the organization's Second Team at defensive end. Holani was named to The Athletic's Freshman All-America Second Team.

Weaver's outstanding 2019 campaign has included being named the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year as well as to the All-Mountain West First Team last week. The Long Beach, Calif., native has racked up a Mountain West-leading 13.5 sacks, ranking fifth in the nation, as well as a career-high 50 tackles, including 18.5 tackles-for-loss, a figure which also paces the conference and ranks tied for ninth in the FBS.

A Ted Hendricks Award finalist and Bednarik Award semifinalist, Weaver has recorded at least a share of a sack in eight of Boise State's 13 games, along with three multi-sack performances. He set a Boise State single-game record with 4.0 sacks Sept. 14 against Portland State, and, with three sacks Oct. 5 at UNLV, passed the previous conference career benchmark of 29.5 to become the Mountain West's career sack king. With 34.0 sacks to his name over his three seasons, Weaver ranks second in Boise State history, and is the FBS' active career leader.

Holani emerged as Boise State's No. 1 back in 2019, leading the team, and all freshmen in the Mountain West, with 979 rushing yards, third-best in the conference. His performance led to him being voted the 2019 Mountain West Freshman of the Year, and to the conference's Second Team.

The rookie's production has not been limited to the ground, as Holani has also nabbed 23 passes for 179 yards and a pair of touchdowns, to add to his seven rushing scores for a total of nine on the season.

Holani's nine touchdowns are tied for eighth among non-kickers in the Mountain West, and lead all freshmen. He's also put up three 100-yard games this season, highlighted by his 178 yards on just 16 carries (11.1 yards per attempt) with a pair of touchdowns Nov. 23 at Utah State.

Boise State (12-1), which won its fourth Mountain West title with last Saturday's 31-10 victory over Hawai'i in the conference championship game, will square off with Washington (7-5) at Dec. 21's Mitsubishi Motors Las Vegas Bowl. Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m. MT on ABC.
