BOISE, Idaho - Redshirt junior center Mallory McGwire was named the Mountain West Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
McGwire claimed the first weekly conference honor for herself and the Broncos after a career-best performance in Wednesday's 83-82 overtime win over New Mexico. In the Mountain West opener between the teams picked to finish first and second in the preseason poll, McGwire came up clutch, first sending the game into overtime with a putback with under a minute left that tied the game at 77-77, then hitting the game-winning 3-pointer from the left wing with 11 seconds remaining in the extra session to account for the margin of victory.
The Broncos would go on to complete the undefeated opening week of conference play with a 72-69 victory Sunday at Colorado State.
The Reno, Nev., native posted her second double-double of the season, scoring a career-high 21 points and grabbing a career high-matching 17 rebounds while going 9-for-14 from the field. On the year, the 2019-20 Mountain West Preseason Newcomer of the Year is averaging 11.1 points and 7.3 rebounds per game while shooting 50.0 percent from the field and 45.8 percent from 3-point range.
Boise State (6-4, 2-0 MW) resumes non-conference play this week, hosting BYU (3-3) Wednesday at 7 p.m. at ExtraMile Arena, then traveling to Cheney, Wash., to take on Eastern Washington (1-5) Sunday at 2:05 p.m. MT.
