Remme Nominated for NCAA Woman of the Year

BOISE, Idaho – Following one of the most decorated gymnastics careers in school history, Boise State nominated Shani Remme for the 2019 NCAA Woman of the Year Award, the school and NCAA announced Wednesday.
Established in 1991, the NCAA Woman of the Year award recognizes graduating female college athletes who have exhausted their eligibility and distinguished themselves in academics, athletics, service and leadership throughout their collegiate careers.
Remme, a two-time All-American, established the Broncos' all-time record on beam (23) and in the all-around (21) despite her senior season being cut short due to injury. She was named Boise State's Lyle Smith Award recipient following the conclusion of this past season, given to the top graduating student-athlete at Boise State.
She won back-to-back Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference Gymnast of the Year honors in 2017 and 2018, and was also the conference's freshman of the year in 2016. Remme was also named a nominee for the AAI Award during her final collegiate campaign, regarded as the Heisman Trophy for women's collegiate gymnastics.
Remme was a four-time honoree on the Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference All-Academic Team, and completed more than 60 hours of community service over the course of her Bronco career.
Conferences will now select up to two nominees each from the pool of school nominees. Then, the Woman of the Year selection committee, made up of representatives from the NCAA membership, will choose the Top 30 honorees — 10 from each division.
The selection committee will determine the top three honorees from each division from the Top 30 and announce the nine finalists in September. From those nine finalists, the NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics then will choose the 2019 NCAA Woman of the Year.
The Top 30 honorees will be celebrated and the 2019 NCAA Woman of the Year will be named at the annual award ceremony Oct. 20 in Indianapolis.
