BOISE, Idaho – Boise State head coach Gordy Presnell announced Tuesday the signing of Spanish international Laia Soler (Mataro, Spain / IES Joaquim Blume) to a National Letter of Intent. Soler, a 6-foot-1 forward who holds dual Spanish and Chilean citizenship, is the third signee of Boise State's Class of 2020, joining Chinma Njoku and Kimora Sykes.
"We are excited to welcome Laia to Boise State," said Boise State head coach Gordy Presnell. "Laia is a very good shooter which fits right into our offense, and she has gained a valuable amount of experience in Spanish youth national team camps and playing for Segle XXI. We're excited to have her continue our network of Spanish internationals playing for the Broncos."
Soler has spent the last three seasons with Segle XXI of Spain's Liga Feminina 2 (women's second division). She averaged 3.2 points and 2.8 rebounds over 11 games in 2018-19 before having her campaign cut short due to injury.
In 2017-18, Soler, as a U17, shot 32 percent from behind the arc while averaging 3.7 points and 2.8 rebounds a game in her first campaign with the senior club team. Her debut season with the senior team came following two seasons with Segle XXI's U18 squad (2015-17).
Following the 2016-17 season with Segle XXI's U18 team, Soler was called into Spain's U16 National Team camp ahead of the 2017 FIBA U16 Girls European Championship in Bourges, France.
Soler will join a Boise State women's basketball team that is coming off of a 2018-19 campaign in which it won a school-record 28 games and made its third-straight NCAA Tournament appearance. The Broncos have claimed consecutive Mountain West regular-season titles (2018-19) and three-straight conference tournament titles (2017-19) while reaching the NCAA Tournament in four of the past five seasons (2015, 2017-19).
