BOISE, Idaho -Â Boise State quarterback Hank Bachmeier and kicker Eric Sachse were recognized nationally Tuesday for their performances in Saturday's season-opening 36-31 win at Florida State. Bachmeier was one of eight quarterbacks honored with selection to the Manning Award Stars of the Week list, while Sachse was one of four kickers named to the Lou Groza Award's Stars of the Week list.
Bachmeier, the first true freshman to start a season opener in Boise State's FBS Era (1996-present), completed 30-of-51 passes for 407 yards and a touchdown with just one interception in the win, with his yardage total setting the benchmark for highest by a first-time Bronco starter. His 51 pass attempts also ranked tied for fifth in Boise State single-game history.
Sachse also made a memorable, and record-setting, debut in a Bronco uniform Saturday, knocking down a Boise State single game record-tying five field goals. The transfer from Division III Trinity College nailed each of his first two attempts from 36 yards out, then connected from, in order, 41, 26, and 30 yards. For the day, Sachse was perfect, also hitting all three of his PAT attempts, and accounted for 18 points.
Boise State, which cracked both national polls at No. 24 Tuesday, hosts Marshall (1-0) in its 2019 season opener Friday at 7 p.m. MT on ESPN2.
