
Boise State Opens Thunderbird Classic with Win Over MTSU

Walley and Duffy combine for 34 kills to lead the Broncos.
CEDAR CITY, Utah - Janell Walley and Shae Duffy recorded career highs for kills Friday morning to lead Boise State past Middle Tennessee State 3-1 (25-15, 26-28, 25-22, 25-19) at the Thunderbird Classic in Cedar City, Utah. The Boise State duo combined for 34 kills with Walley leading the way with 19 (tied career high) and Duffy following with 15.Â

After winning the opening set with relative ease, the Broncos were tested in the last three. The Broncos dropped the second set after rallying from five down midway through the period to force it to extra points and had a set point before falling 28-26.Â
The Blue and Orange is now 2-2 overall with a second matched scheduled for later Friday afternoon for 4 p.m. against Saint Mary's.Â
With the exception of set two, Boise State hit decent throughout most of the match finishing at 21.6 percent as a team, while MTSU was held to 12.5 percent. The Broncos hit 26.7 percent in the first, 9.3 percent in the second, followed by 22.9 percent in the third and 32.3 percent in the fourth.Â
Walley led the Broncos overall with 23.5 points on 19 kills, two service aces and five block assists. In addition, she hit a season-best 50 percent and had nine digs, just missing her second double-double of the year.Â
Duffy followed with 15 kills and two block assists for 16 points. Jessica Donahue chipped in seven kills and team-high six blocks, while Alyssa Wissinger added six kills and four blocks.Â
Danielle Boss was the only Bronco to record a double-double in the match on a season-high 50 assists and 12 digs. Allison Casillas led along the back line with a team-high 16 digs.Â
