PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Boise State women's tennis program has been named the 2020 Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) Community Service Award winner for the Mountain Region. The Broncos were selected out of a pool of 23 programs in the Mountain Region which includes schools representing the Mountain West, Pac-12, Big Sky, Summit League, WAC and Conference USA.
The Broncos recorded 130 hours of community service throughout the Boise community over the course of the last year.
"The community service experiences that our student-athletes have participated in and engaged with the community have continued to shape the culture of our program," said assistant coach Maria Lopez. "We often talk about gratefulness and the opportunity that playing college tennis gives them. Our student-athletes not only want to give back and pay it forward to the community, but they are also challenging each other to be more involved in it. The joy, growth and sense of pride that our students experience by participating in these activities are invaluable."
Coach Lopez continued, "It is strengthening and reinforcing their core values, the program, and others they influence. They take a lot of pride in the hours they are committing to be involved in community service. To balance academics and earn the program's highest GPA, to compete at the highest level, and find extra time in their busy schedules to proactively be involved in all areas of the community makes me so incredibly proud to have them in our program. These young ladies show citizenship, leadership and have created a bond with the community that will continue to help our sport and program grow in the future."
