RIO VERDE, Ariz. -Â Junior Lexi Perry shot a final-round 69 at the Rio Verde Invitational Sunday, climbing 15 spots to fifth, her second top-five finish of the season.
Sitting at 7-over and tied for 20th after shooting 76 in the morning's second round, Perry holed five birdies against just a pair of bogeys in the afternoon, finishing the tournament at 4-over (75-76-69=220), just five strokes back of medalist Grayson Gladden of Arkansas State.
Fellow junior Nicole Suppelsa also played well in the final round, bouncing back from a second-round 84 to card a 75. Paced by Perry and Suppelsa's play, the Broncos shot a team-best 12-over (300) in Sunday afternoon's final round to finish 10th in the field at +57 (307-314-300=921).
"Lexi played a great final round and made a good climb up the leaderboard. She finished the tournament very strong, and it was good to see her birdie putts falling," said Boise State head coach Nicole Bird. "As a team, there were some things that we did well today, and some things that we still need to work on. We'll use these next two weeks to prepare for our next tournament."
Freshman Taylor Koch finished tied for 34th at +14 (72-78-80=230) while senior Valentine Lacaze was tied for 46th (79-76-79=234), just four strokes behind Koch. Suppelsa finished at 24-over (81-84-75=240) while Ivane Helias shot her lowest round of the tournament Sunday afternoon to finish 33-over (83-89-77=249).
Arkansas State took the team title, finishing at 16-over (299-289-292=880).
Boise State returns to action March 9-10 at the BYU at Entrada Classic in St. George, Utah.
