Walker Named Bednarik Award Candidate

BOISE, Idaho – Redshirt senior cornerback Jalen Walker was named to the Chuck Bednarik Award Preseason Watch List, the Maxwell Football Club announced Monday morning.
The Bednarik Award honors college football's defensive player of the year.
Walker enjoyed a breakout season in 2019, being named to the All-Mountain West Second Team. The Lawndale, Calif., native started all 14 games for the Broncos, leading the team with nine pass breakups, finishing fifth with 53 tackles, making 3.0 tackles-for-loss, and returning his lone interception of the season 15 yards for a touchdown Nov. 23 at Utah State.
Walker made seven tackles, including one for loss, and broke up a pass in the season-opening 36-31 win at Florida State, and would twice more notch at least seven tackles in 2019, highlighted by season-high eight Nov. 29 at Colorado State.
Semifinalists for the Bednarik Award will be announced Nov. 3, while the three finalists are scheduled to be revealed Nov. 23. The winner of the 2020 Bednarik Awards will be announced as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show held on December 10, 2020.
